Pokemon Go harbors an incredibly useful feature that gives Trainers a temporary respite between treks, which is Pokestops. These incredibly convenient locations provide small pockets of items that any player can collect by simply coming within range of them. Items that you may find in a Pokestop can vary between Pokeballs, Potions, Eggs, and Razz Berry's.

The good news is, if you're in a built-up area and happen to be near any prominent buildings, such as churches, transport hubs, or police stations, then you're more likely to spot a Pokestop. However, if you're in an area that has little to no Pokestops, then you can nominate a Pokestop via Niantic, Inc.

How To Nominate A Pokestop

There are, of course, several steps to nominating a Pokestop in Pokemon Go. Before you begin, though, it is worth taking into account that not every nomination will be approved by Niantic. That said, you can provide the developer with all the relevant details on the suggested Pokestop location, which will then be evaluated by both the team at Niantic and the Pokemon Go community.

Account Specifics

To make a nomination in Pokemon Go, you will need to be atlevel 37 and haveanadultaccount. Players that have not reached this level will not be able to send in any nominations, therefore it is worth building your rank before getting in touch with Niantic about opening up a Pokestop. Either this or you can contact another player and ask them to make the nomination on your behalf.

Pokemon Go users with child accounts will not be able to make a nomination.

Go To Your Menu

Once you have found the location you want to nominate, simply tap the Main Menu button. Then, hit Settings, and then select New Pokestop. Choosing this will begin your submission form, which you will need to complete in full for the nomination to be eligible for player evaluation.

Place The Orange Pin

The first step thing you will need to do is to place the orange pin on the map, which can be set at any public building or landmark in your area. You can move the pin by holding it down and dragging it across the screen. Once you are happy with the location, tap the Confirm button, which will usher you along to the next phase.

Nominating a Pokestop within proximity of an existing Pokestop on the map may be considered ineligible, so be sure to find somewhere that doesn't already have any orange or blue pins marked on the map.

Take A Photo

Next, you will need to take a photo of the landmark you wish to nominate. Think of this as your centerpiece, which will be used to help players evaluate the Pokestop and either give it the green light or the boot.

When taking the picture, do not feature any pedestrians, animals, or anything copyright-protected. Doing any of these things will result in an ineligible nomination, and will therefore not be put up for consideration.

Submit Additional Photos

After taking your primary photo, you will need to submit additional pictures to help flesh out your application. Taking more pictures of the location from different angles will add context to the area, and will also help the community determine whether it will be a suitable spot for a Pokestop or not.

Typically, a submission that features dangerous terrain or inaccessible entryways will not be considered for a Pokestop, so be sure to keep this in mind when confirming your pin.

Enter A Title And Description

Lastly, you will need to enter a title and a description for your uploaded images. This is pretty self-explanatory, and can be done by inserting the appropriate details that you'd usually find on Google.

For example, title should be the name of the actual location, and the description should summarize the location or landmark and provide the community with a short backstory.

When filling out your title and description, try not to insert any URLs, internal/external links, or references to other players/items in Pokemon Go.

Submit Your Nomination

Once you have finalized all of your details, you will be able to preview your nomination. If you're happy with it and do not wish to make any corrections, then simply tap the Submit button. Doing this will send your form to the community for evaluation.

How To Successfully Get A Nomination Approved

While submitting a nomination for a Pokestop is simple, getting it approved requires following Niantic's Wayspot acceptance criteria.

There are three main categories a Wayspot can fall under: a place that encourages exploration, a place for exercise, or a social gathering spot. Examples include historic markers, public art, parks, trails, libraries, cafes, or even popular transit stations.

However, simply meeting one of these categories isn't a guarantee. The Wayspot must also be a permanent, physical object or something that marks a specific location. Additionally, people must be able to safely access it on foot, indoors or outdoors.

Make sure that the title, description, and photo accurately represent what you're nominating.

By understanding these guidelines and choosing a location that aligns with them, you'll increase your chances of seeing your nomination become a Pokestop.

What Happens After Submitting A Pokestop Nomination?

After you submit your nomination, you will receive a confirmation email, which will inform you that the nomination has been received and that it will be passed on to the community for evaluation. At this point, you may have to wait several weeks or months to receive a response.

Although Niantic aims to respond with an answer in a matter of days, it all boils down to the number of nominations that are currently being reviewed at the time of the submission.

The good news is, you will receive an additional email once the outcome has been determined. If your nomination has been approved, then you can expect to see the new Pokestop implemented within a matter of weeks. If your nomination has been rejected, on the other hand, then you will need to read through the criteria and make a new submission.

Again, this may take several weeks or months to pass through the system.
